Used soil ? (About : Gardening)

For many years already I reuse my potting soil in one way or another. The reason is very simple: every time I buy new potting soil, I mix it with the soil conditioner TerraCottem, which is keeping its water and fertilizer stocking potentialities for many years. Therefore, I am adding from time to time some new potting soil (containing a lot of organic matter) to the “old” one when transplanting seedlings or young plants to my containers in spring.

Even after using the same potting soil, with the added new part, for some years, I am not throwing it away, but use it as a mulch layer in my garden or mix it in slightly. I try to be ecologically efficient (also saving energy and money)!

Used soil ?

from Marie Iannotti

“I read an interesting blog posting Gardening and Yardening, last week. They were questioning why, in this age of recycling, it is still recommended that you dump your container potting soil and start fresh each year. They offered recommendations for mixing in some fresh soil and some time released fertilizer, rather than wasting all the old potting soil or simply tossing it into your compost. ”
