Desertification in Gansu Province’s Minqin County to Be Controlled

It was proposed in planning of Shiyang River Basin Treatment issued recently that, the volume of water reserved for the oases in Minqin County in Gansu Province at the upper reach of Shiyang River would be increased from the current less than 0.1 billion cubic meters to 0.25 billion cubic meters by 2010, and the volume of groundwater exploitation in Minqin County would be cut off from more than 0.5 billion cubic meters currently to 0.089 billion cubic meters then. Desertification in Minqin County will be primarily controlled in the near future. According to the planning, China will invest 4.749 billion yuan in treatment of Shiyang River Basin, where the local eco-environment has deteriorated seriously.
