You’ve got a lot of great ideas here. I’ve just clicked on a few things, I’ll be sure to look around when I get the chance. A few of us who live in the city of Chicago are trying to grow heirloom vegetables on our rooftops in cheap homemade earthboxes. In response to huge environmental problems, it’s a small but rewarding way to push back. Also, we think they’re a great way to build connections in a fragmented social/political landscape.Here’s the Flickr link, along side the pics is a little how-to guide with plenty of relevant links.

This past summer, my friends (Art and Heidi) and I tried to grow heirloom vegetables on our respective rooftops in Chicago using homemade Earthboxes. Heidi would come over every few weeks and take some photos of my plants, which she then sent me along with some shots from their roof garden.

If you’ve got any ideas you want to share about growing food in the city let me know. Also we’re trying to figure out how to automate the watering of all those tubs on my garage roof. Anyone?
