Drought does not threaten the Saffron cultivation

Continued drought in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan during past 8 years has showed that under cultivation area of Saffron will not encounter a serious reduction.

IRAN AGRICULTURE NEWS AGENCY (IANA) – “Continued drought in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan during past 8 years has showed that under cultivation area of Saffron will not encounter a serious reduction and contrary to other commodities, that does not suffer from water shortage,” said the member of directorate of the union of Saffron sellers. “Although Saffron cultivation was dedicated to the two mentioned provinces, in recent years, its cultivation has been started in more than 18 provinces of Iran, so the production volume of the commodity will not be threatened,” added Gholam Reza Miri. “The price of Saffron currently varies from One million 750 to One million 950 thousand Tomans per Kilo that has caused we retrieve our position in international markets,” he affirmed.
