SECOND CONFERENCE ON DESERTIFICATION
Belgian experts and their projects on desertification

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS (oral and poster)
On the occasion of the second year of the UNESCO Chair of Eremology of Ghent University, the International Centre for Eremology (ICE) and the Belgian Expert Group on Desertification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organize its ‘Second Conference on Desertification’ on 24 February 2009 in Ghent.
The theme of the conference is ‘Belgian experts and their projects on desertification’ and will focus on present research and field projects descriptions and results on ‘desertification indicators’ and on ‘ways and means to combat desertification’ with emphasis on items as: soil and water; biodiversity; climate; socio-economics and gender aspects; water harvesting
A maximum of 10-12 papers will be selected for 20-30 minutes oral presentation and ample opportunity and attention will be given to poster presentations, an important part of the conference. Oral and poster presentations can be given in English, French or Dutch.
Abstracts of papers and posters
Maximum 1 page abstract of the presentation (oral or poster) (in English, French or Dutch or in two languages) is due before 5 February 2009 with indication of preference: oral or poster. 10-12 papers will be selected for oral presentations before 10 February. Abstracts will be printed before the conference. Full papers will be reviewed and published (in English) by the end of 2009 through the services of ICE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a special issue of the Unesco Chair on Eremology. Posters should be preferably 90 cm wide and 120 cm high.
Registration
An intention to participate can be send as early as possible by sending an e-mail message to the secretariat of the conference. The final registration for participating at the conference is necessary by paying the registration fee of 30 Euros before 15 February 2009. Indication for payment will be given at a later stage. The registration fee includes participation at the conference, copy of the abstracts and programme, coffee breaks and light lunch.
