Fill a hungry belly this Thanksgiving
This year has been difficult for many Americans. Job losses and the economic recession have pressed families to tighten budgets, postpone vacations and cut back on leisure activities. Those hit the hardest must turn to programs such as welfare and food stamps. Yet for the world’s hungry poor, such safety net programs do not exist. Last year’s global economic and food crises have left the poorest people with nowhere to turn. For those who were already using 80 percent of their incomes to feed their families, higher prices and lower earnings have put food out of reach.
This Thanksgiving, as you sit down with friends and family to enjoy your holiday meal, take a moment to think about those around the world who struggle each day to feed themselves and their children. Though this year has been tough on us here in America, remember that even the smallest donation will make a dramatic difference in the life of a hungry person.
During this holiday season, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) will continue to work around the globe and around the clock to get food to those who need it most. Just 25 cents can feed a hungry child in school, and $50 can feed that child for a full school year. Help us celebrate this season of thanks by sharing with the hungry around the world.
From our family here at Friends of the World Food Program to yours, we wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
