Quatar will take steps to ensure food security

Qatar has renewed its call and commitment to drought mitigation and to combating desertification and land degradation.

As a member of “World Alliance of dry lands,” Qatar will take steps to enhance food security, reclamation of desert land for agriculture and the development of innovative scientific farming methods.

In an statement before the Second Committee of the 65th session of the General Assembly on Agenda item (26), entitled “Agricultural Development and Food Security” yesterday, Mohamed al-Outaibi, the Diplomatic Attache at the Consular Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Qatar seeks to co-operate with other countries facing drought at the regional and international levels.

“We all share the same problems to a large extent, namely water scarcity and the need to find solutions for cultivating dry land and technology and know-how sharing between all countries”, he said.
