Katsina, Kebbi Govt to tackle desertification (Google / Radio Nigeria)

Desertification has remained a major threat to lives in Kebbi and Katsina State, in view of its impact on the environmental, especially in the Sub-Saharan Africa.

Farming activities in the States are been affected, especially within the Sahelian region.

Governments at the Federal and States have been taking measures to tackle this problem which for long appears insurmountable.

The Katsina government approach to addressing the problem of desertification is on the development of seedlings for distribution to farmers within the State.
Desertification is the degradation of land in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas due to various factors: including climatic variations and human activities.

A major impact of desertification is reduced biodiversity and diminished productive capacity, for example, by transition from land dominated by scrublands’ to non-native grasslands.
