Kuwait”s participation in anti-desertification conf. extolled
Adviser to Kuwait’s Permanent delegation to the United Nations, Malik al-Wazzan, said here on Friday that Kuwait’s participation in the United Nations Conference to Combat Desertification comes as part of its interaction with the problem of drought, which has become threatening to various parts of the world.
Al-Wazzan told KUNA that the drought and desertification phenomena have direct effect on global food production and higher prices, a matter that was felt by everyone in recent years, as well as global climate change and its negative economic dimensions.
He added that the economies of poor countries are the most affected by this problem, which has hit the depth of their food security as well as causing humanitarian disasters such as displacement, homelessness and associated diseases.
