Nigeria: Desertification – ‘Borno to Transplant 500,000 Seedlings’

The Borno State government is to transplant 500,000 cashew seedlings raised by the environment ministry to sustain the fight against desertification in the state.

Environment commissioner Hassan Aminami who said this, added that Governor Kashim Shettima last Friday ordered the release of funds to his ministry for the project.

Aminami was speaking to correct figures contained in an advertorial in the Daily Trust which gave the number of the cashew seedlings as 5,000.

He said the ministry would soon start moving the 500,000 seedlings from its nurseries to transplant in desertification-prone areas especially in the northern part of the state.
