CCD Coalition (SCOPE Pakistan)

I am a member of CCD COALITION since the very beginning. My good friend Tanveer ARIF of SCOPE PAKISTAN, representing his NGO at most of the Conferences of Parties of the UNCCD, invited me in 2001 to set up a nice project with the Farmer’s Union of Gadap/Malir (Karachi):

Farmer’s Union Gadap
July 2001 : Meeting the Farmer’s Union for a training session on the use of TerraCottem in dryland agriculture.

Gadap farmers
2001-07 : Attentive group of Pakistani farmers.

Cultivated land
2001-07 : General view on cultivated land with irrigation canals (for tomato production).

Newly prepared field
2001-07 : Newly prepared field for TerraCottem demonstration.

Demo of TC
2001-07 : I had the pleasure of explaining to the local farmers how easy it was to mix the TC with the soil at the slopes of the irrigation canals.

2001-10 Gadap propject
2001-10: Thanks to the TerraCottem-treatment tomato production was a big success : less water for irrigation needed and more tomates produced.

2001-10 Gadap project 02
2001-10 : Instead of leaving the tomato plants bend over and many tomatoes touching the soil (dirt, infections, animals), we introduced a simple system with wooden poles and horizontal strings to keep the tomato plants growing vertically (erect).

And then Tanveer ARIF with his friends of SCOPE PAKISTAN created the CCD COALITION. You will find a link to their website under BLOGROLL in the right column of this blog. There you will find the following text:
This group is created to facilitate the discussion and networking among the stakeholders (Government agencies, NGOs, CSOs, farmers, pastoralists, scientists, donors, media) of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

This is actually a 6 years old list of more than 700 members, which was created on a different website, (i.e. TOPICA) after an international conference on UNCCD, at Islamabad in 1999. Now we have shifted it on YAHOO and inviting members to join here, again. The reason for shfting is that YAHOO groups are user friendly and many many people already have YAHOO IDs, moreover, online members can chat here, post pictures and organize virtual conferences (by using chat facility). We request you to inform your friends about this list to become active members.
