China Desertification: No Stopping the March of Time and Sand

Chinese efforts at reversing Nature’s course have proved to be futile. The loss of previously-tillable land to the Gobi Desert, scientifically linked to climate change and melting glaciers in Tibet, continues unabated, making the vicious sandstorms raking Beijing and northern China even worse. The Chinese can do a lot to curb air pollution by the time the 2008 Olympics roll around. But it looks like stopping the sandstorms is going to have be up to a higher power.
