DESERTIFICATION- A CHALLENGE FOR AFRICA

Desertification is becoming a serious menace to our environment affecting the economic and social well being of the ever increasing population. Even though it is a global problem, its impact is more devastating in Africa, where majority of the people are living in the rural areas whose major occupations are farming and animal rearing. The land for these occupations are being lost every day through desertification and other forms of land degradation thus causing untold hardship, poverty and other social vices to the inhabitants of the desertified areas. It is therefore in view of these and other facts that Africa Desertification Control Initiative was formed to:

¸ Create awareness on the threats posed by desertification to the rural Africans living in the desertified areas.
¸ Evolve means of transferring appropriate technological skills in desert control to the communities in desertified African environment.
¸ Build capacity of the vulnerable rural African people in the dry land environment to adapting to desertification situation for sustainable development.
¸ Provide professional consulting service and delivery of experts advice in areas of desertification control.

Africa Desertification Control Initiative is duly incorporated and registered as a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and had commenced operations in Nigeria and will soon reach out to other African countries. In this vein, we wish to introduce Africa Desertification Control Initiative to you and solicit for your support and cooperation in facing this challenge to enable us realize our set objectives.
