World Day to Combat Desertification on 17 June 2014

Dear CSO representatives,

We would like to invite you to celebrate with us the World Day to Combat Desertification on 17 June this year.

The theme of the 2014 World Day to Combat Desertification is ecosystem-based adaptation. To mark this day, the UNCCD and partners are calling on civil society, governments, schools, the media and others to organize events and awareness raising activities on this theme. This year’s slogan, ” Land belongs to the future, let’s climate proof it!” highlights the benefits of mainstreaming sustainable land management policies and practices into our collective response to climate change.

Sustainable land management increases both community and ecosystem resilience while improving the human condition particularly in the drylands. As we would like to showcase your efforts on our web page, we would be most grateful if you could let us know your planned activities and events for this day.  Announcements, press releases, pictures, posters and/or presentations of your WDCD celebrations are most welcome. Grateful if you could share them with us through cso@unccd.int.

Additional information, logos and other resource material is available on

We wish you a successful World Day to Combat Desertification

Best regards,

Marcos Montoiro
