Secretary General Releases the Report on the UN Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification

The Secretary General has published his report of the five year implementation of the UN Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification.  The report will be presented to the 69th Session for the General Assembly on Thursday, 16 October 2014, by Ms Monique Barbut, Executive Secretary, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

Titled, Implementation of the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification, (document A/69/311), the report is available in the six official languages of the UN.

The report highlights the activities undertaken by the secretariat of the UNCCD. It also presents the plans and activities to advance the Decade undertaken by States parties and observers to the Convention and through collaboration and partnership by UN entities.

It provides a summary of the awareness raising and advocacy initiatives undertaken and observances held at global and regional levels, on the margins of major conferences and events or jointly with other Decades and as special initiatives as well as the support provided for the celebrations and observances for the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
