Partnership to end deforestation, desertification underway
Efforts have been galvanised to confront the monstrous effects of desertification and deforestation as the European Union (EU) is partnering with some organisations in Nigeria to push for better understanding on how to have a kind disposition to the environment.
In this regard, the EU is partnering Yar’Adua Foundation, in partnership and the Open Society for West Africa (OSIWA), hosted a public policy forum in Abuja.
The forum which focused on deepening and increasing awareness regarding the impacts of climate change on human and food security and to build public and political will to implement policies mitigating increasing desertification and deforestation.
The minister for environment, Amina Mohammed, alongside the Senate committee chairman on environment, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and her counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obinna Chidoka, served as lead speakers at the forum.The Ambassador of the EU delegation to Nigeria and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Michel Arrion, also featured in the event.
Speaking at the event, the minister said the issues of governance has now been integrated into the modus operandi of her ministry as every segment of the society have been fused into the framework.
