Tikau Emirate Intensifies Fight Against Desertification In Yobe

DAMATURU – Tikau Emirate Council in Yobe State has said that this year, it has reviewed strategy in the fight against desertification in its domain.

Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Ibn Grema, Emir of Tikau, who spoke to DAILY INDEPENDENT at his palace in Sabon Garin Nangere town, explained that the Emirate had improved strategy for the continuous plantation of trees and encouraging the subjects to protect the tree plantations to safeguard the environment against desertification and other environmental hazards.

According to him, “Trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe.
