Saudi Arabia launches project to combat desertification

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Jan 14 (KUNA) — President of the Saudi Meteorology and Environment Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz unveiled on Saturday a project to combat desertification and protect environment.

“The project, titled “The National Program of Environment and Sustainable Development, costs up to five billion Saudi riyals (some USD 1.34 billion),” Prince Turki, also chairman of the Saudi Environment Society, told a press conference here.

He made the remarks on the eve of the International Forum of Infrastructure and Its Impact on Environment, to be held here for three days under the patronage of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

“The Kingdom started the implementation of 10 national programs relating to agricultural reforms in selected areas, mainly in the northern and eastern areas, for three years.
