Algeria Plays Key Role in Preparation for Paris Climate Conference

Algeria has a “key” role in the preparation for Paris Climate Conference, scheduled for December 2015, said Thursday in Algiers the Vice President of the Negotiating Committee on the Framework Convention on Climate, Ambassador Ahmed Djoghlaf.

“Algeria has a key role in the preparation for Paris Conference as the co-president with the United States,” Djoghlaf told the press on the sidelines of the conference he held on “climate change, importance of Paris Climate Conference.”

Algeria, as co-chair of the negotiating committee “will have to find compromises with all the countries to reach an agreement that would help mitigate global warming,” he said.

Djoghlaf said that Algeria “share the same interests with many countries regarding desertification,” underlining the role that Algeria has to play to draw attention to this issue that should be taken into consideration in the Convention.

“It’s in the interest of Algeria and also of all the countries hit by desertification, particularly African and Arab countries. We have common positions when it comes to defending interests during negotiations,” he added.
